Wine Connoisseur Dennis Bulluck began his journey with wine at the tender age of seven, when he first helped his father create homemade wines from grapes, peaches, and pears, from fruit grown in their backyard. From this early childhood adventure, Dennis launched his lifelong interest in wine.
As an adult, Dennis jump-started his interest in wine through a brother-in-law, who worked for a premiere retail wine shop in New York City. Learning how to pair wines with different foods, he began his wine education in earnest. Soon afterward, he enrolled in the Harriet Lembeck Wine School in New York City, where he successfully completed basic and advanced courses. Certificate in hand, Dennis landed his first position in the wine industry in 1992 at Garnet Wines in New York. He quickly began building an extraordinary and devoted customer clientele, many of whom he still enjoys working with today.
It was after he had moved on to learn the wholesale side of the business at the largest wholesaler in New York at the time that Dennis soon realized he derived the most satisfaction from seeing the happy reactions on the faces of people he helped in discovering wine. He loved working in retail, and so he was hired at Carlo Russo’s Wine and Spirits World in Fort Lee, New Jersey as an assistant manager. It only took Dennis four months to become the general manager, and take on the responsibility for over 20 employees. From 1993-1999, he learned the day- to-day operations of running a wine shop, from buying to shipping. At Carlo’s, Dennis also learned the technique of what he calls “hand-selling wines.” Throughout these important years, Dennis traveled to many European wine regions, creating relationships with multiple wine makers that he maintains to this day.
In 1999, Dennis joined the up-and-coming wine shop in New Jersey, Gary’s Wine and Marketplace. He quickly became one of Gary’s top wine consultants and buyers, a position he enjoyed for over ten years. Dennis expanded his journeys to wineries around the world, including multiple visits to Napa Valley each year, where he attended wine auctions and soon gained a reputation for successfully acquiring prized wine for his higher-end customers. Finally, after ten terrific years at Gary’s, Dennis moved on to the new, top wine shop in the New Jersey area, Wine Library.
At Wine Library, Dennis has taken on the role of chief buyer for seven different wine regions, and with his extraordinary depth of knowledge, has coordinated many tastings. Dennis is still travelling the wine world, visiting regions as diverse as Argentina and Walla Walla, Washington.
